Kenya, 15 December 2025 - Wajir County Governor Ahmed Abdullahi, who also chairs the Council of Governors, has urged counties to exercise heightened precaution this festive season to safeguard the lives of mothers and newborns.
Speaking during a high-level national webinar he convened through the Health Committee, entitled “Festive Season, Safe Season: Preventing Maternal and Newborn Deaths in the Counties”, Governor Abdullahi emphasised the need for intensified preparedness.
The virtual forum brought together governors, county executive committee members for health, chief officers, county health management teams, Ministry of Health officials, frontline health workers, clinicians, county health personnel, and development partners.
He stressed that counties must strengthen coordination and vigilance over the festive period to protect mothers and newborns.
Governor Abdullahi emphasised that no celebration should come at the cost of preventable loss of life.

He called for bolstered intergovernmental collaboration, adequate staffing of health facilities, functional referral and emergency transport systems, and uninterrupted availability of essential medicines, blood, and critical supplies throughout the holiday period.
