Somalia, 25 May 25, 2026 The African Union’s Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) reaffirmed its commitment to Somalia's security transition on Africa Day, praising the resilience of Somali people.
In a statement marking the occasion, AUSSOM Head, Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, emphasized that the continent remains dedicated to Somalia's state-building and recovery efforts.
"AUSSOM, working in close partnership with the Federal Government of Somalia, remains committed to supporting Somali-led efforts to strengthen security institutions, promote stabilization, protect communities, and create conditions for sustainable peace and development," Diene said.
The statement comes at a critical juncture as Somalia continues its operations to degrade the Al-Shabaab militant group. For nearly two decades, successive African Union peacekeeping iterations have provided the security backbone for the federal government.

Diene paid tribute to the regional troop-and police-contributing countries whose forces continue to make sacrifices on the frontlines, working alongside local Somali security forces.
The envoy also noted that Somalia’s stabilization progress is central to the African Union's broader "Agenda 2063" framework, which envisions a peaceful, secure, and economically integrated continent.
