June 11, 2026 - Wajir County has ushered in a new County Commissioner following a formal handover ceremony that saw Mr. Karuku Ngumo transfer leadership to his successor, Mr. Ronald O. Enyakasi.
The high-profile event, organized by the Office of the County Commissioner at I-Mall Hotel, brought together senior national government officials, security leaders, religious leaders, civil society representatives, community elders, development partners and other stakeholders.
The ceremony marked a significant transition in the county's administration and underscored the government's commitment to strengthening service delivery, security and development in the region.
During the event, Mr. Ngumo officially handed over the instruments of authority to Mr. Enyakasi, who pledged to build on the gains achieved by his predecessor.
In his inaugural address, the new County Commissioner emphasized the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders in addressing the county's challenges and advancing development.
Mr. Enyakasi said his administration would work closely with local communities, county leadership, the Interreligious Council, civil society organizations, national government agencies, persons living with disabilities and the media to promote peace, security and economic growth.
"We must continue working together as partners to strengthen peace, enhance security and accelerate development across Wajir County. My office will remain open to all stakeholders as we pursue our shared vision for a prosperous and stable county," he said.
The outgoing County Commissioner thanked the people of Wajir for their support and cooperation during his tenure, noting that strong partnerships between the government and local communities had been instrumental in maintaining peace and stability.
Mr. Ngumo highlighted key achievements realized during his time in office, including improvements in security coordination, support for infrastructure development and the successful hosting of major national events.
His leadership was particularly credited with overseeing security arrangements during the construction of the Ahmed Khalif Stadium and facilitating the successful hosting of President William Ruto during this year's Madaraka Day celebrations in Wajir.
In recognition of his service, Mr. Ngumo received a warm farewell from stakeholders. I-Fly Air and the I-Mall Group of Companies flew in a commemorative cake from Nairobi to honor his contributions to the county.
Speaking during the ceremony, I-Fly Air and I-Mall Group Chief Executive Officer Abdi A Hassan praised the county's security leadership for ensuring a peaceful environment during the recent Madaraka Day celebrations.
He also commended Wajir residents for their hospitality and continued commitment to peace and coexistence.
"Wajir demonstrated its ability to host national events successfully. This was made possible by the cooperation between security agencies, local leaders and the community," he said.
Stakeholders who addressed the gathering expressed confidence in Mr. Enyakasi's leadership and pledged their support in advancing peace, security and development initiatives across the county.
The handover comes at a time when Wajir is increasingly positioning itself as a key development hub in northern Kenya, with ongoing investments in infrastructure, security, education and economic development aimed at improving the livelihoods of residents.
The ceremony concluded with goodwill messages and calls for continued collaboration among government agencies, community leaders and development partners to sustain the progress achieved in recent years.
