Jigjiga, 9 September 2026 The Somali Regional State capital, Jigjiga, hosted an event marking Resilience Day, observed on the third day of Pagume in the Ethiopian calendar year 2018, corresponding to Sept. 8, 2026.
The event was attended by Somali Regional State President Mustafe Mohamed Omar, regional officials, security personnel and representatives of various sections of the community.
Resilience Day is part of a five-day national program observed during Pagume. The third day is dedicated to highlighting Ethiopia's historic resilience, honoring the country's heroes and encouraging a new generation to contribute to development.
Speaking during the event, Mustafe said security institutions have an important role to play in supporting development efforts in the Somali Region and across Ethiopia.
The observance also featured a flag-raising ceremony, one of the activities organized as part of the nationwide Resilience Day celebrations.

In Jigjiga, Mustafe and Mohamed Naji Mohamed, head of the regional Justice Office, took part in the ceremony, raising the Ethiopian national flag alongside the flag of the Somali Regional State.
The celebration comes as Ethiopia uses the Pagume observances to reflect on achievements, challenges overcome and efforts to strengthen national unity, development and resilience.
For the Somali Region, the occasion also provided an opportunity to highlight the importance of resilience in addressing challenges facing communities and sustaining development.
