Kenya, 29 July 2026 - Wajir County Deputy Governor Ahmed Muhumed joined national leaders, fellow county executives, and development partners in Garissa County for the official opening of the 4th Devolution Sensitization Week.
Held under the national banner of strengthening grassroots governance and citizen engagement, the week-long forum highlights the progress of Kenya’s devolved system while building inter-county cooperation across the North Eastern region.
Speaking on behalf of Wajir County executive during the proceedings, Deputy Governor Ahmed Muhumed emphasized that devolution remains the single most impactful framework for unlocking economic potential and delivering essential services to pastoralist and marginalized communities.
"We have arrived in Garissa County to partake in the 4th Devolution Sensitization Week, ready to engage in productive discussions, foster collaboration, and advance the devolution agenda. We look forward to fruitful deliberations and impactful outcomes that will strengthen service delivery and promote sustainable development across our region."
The summit, opened by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale alongside Council of Governors representatives, centers on accelerating equitable development, healthcare access, and resource alignment between county and national governments.
Deputy Governor Muhumed underscored Wajir County's commitment to multi-sectoral partnerships, pointing to key regional priorities including expanding Healthcare and Social Infrastructure by Strengthening county-led primary healthcare, maternal wellness programs, and drought-resilient water services to ensure sustainable support for rural and pastoralist populations.

He also assured improved Cross-County Collaboration where Wajir will work closely with neighboring counties like Garissa and Mandera to address shared challenges in food security, climate adaptation, and cross-border trade route safety.
Another top priority area is public participation and transparency where the county will continue to utilize grassroots sensitization forums to enable citizens to directly evaluate county performance, demand accountability, and influence local policy planning.
Delegates from Wajir and host county Garissa are participating in multi-sectoral workshops, public service exhibitions, and intergovernmental dialogues designed to streamline devolved service delivery.
The 4th Devolution Sensitization Week will conclude with a joint communique detailing actionable policy recommendations to reinforce local governance and inter-county development funds.
