13 May 2026 - The County Government of Wajir has launched a seven-day livestock vaccination campaign aimed at protecting the animals from major diseases, including Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), and Contagious Caprine Pleuropneumonia (CCPP).
The exercise targets the vaccination of over 200,000 sheep and goats, and 50,000 cattle across all six sub-counties in the county, as part of ongoing efforts by Governor Ahmed Abdullahi to strengthen animal health services and safeguard pastoral livelihoods.
In addition to vaccinations, livestock owners will also benefit from free deworming services and treatment for weak and sick animals, as part of an integrated approach to improving herd health and productivity.
Under the subsidised E-Voucher programme, livestock owners will pay KSh 50 per head of cattle for FMD vaccination and KSh 3 per sheep or goat for PPR vaccination, while other vaccines and treatment drugs will be provided free of charge.
