Somalia, Aug. 11, 2026 – Somalia's SIMAD University has allocated 35 scholarship positions for Sudanese students, including 25 for undergraduate studies and 10 for postgraduate programmes, the university said on Tuesday.
The scholarships are open to Sudanese citizens who meet the relevant admission requirements. Undergraduate applicants must have completed secondary school, according to the university.
The scholarships cover tuition fees only.
Sudanese students currently in Somalia, Sudan or abroad are eligible to apply, provided they meet the university's admission requirements. Applications are currently open for interested students.
The scholarship initiative was announced by Dr. Abdikarim Mohaidin Ahmed, Rector of SIMAD University, during a meeting with Abdirahman Khalil Ahmed, Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to Somalia.

“Sudan and its people have stood with Somalia through difficult times. Through these scholarships, SIMAD University is proud to extend that same spirit of solidarity by creating educational opportunities for Sudanese students,” Ahmed said.
The university said the initiative reflects the longstanding ties between the peoples of Somalia and Sudan and recognises the historical support and solidarity extended by Sudan to Somalia during some of the country's most challenging periods.
SIMAD said the programme aims to give Sudanese students opportunities to continue their education and pursue their academic aspirations at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The initiative forms part of the university's broader commitment to expanding access to higher education and using education to promote opportunity, regional cooperation and social impact, according to the university.
