Somalia, Aug. 11, 2026 – Somalia’s Minister of Trade and Industry Gamal Mohamed Hassan met TradeMark Africa Chief Executive Dave Beer in Mogadishu on Monday to discuss strengthening trade links and improving access to regional and international markets, the ministry said.
The talks focused on strategic trade corridors, trade facilitation and improving connections between Somali markets and international markets, according to the ministry.
The two sides also discussed opportunities arising from Somalia’s membership of the East African Community (EAC) and implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
TradeMark Africa’s Somalia programme includes work on trade systems, infrastructure, digital trade and cross-border connectivity. It also includes efforts to improve trade procedures and the movement of goods and trade information.
The organisation has identified several trade corridors involving Somalia as part of its efforts to reduce trade costs and improve connectivity.

The meeting was attended by Ibrahim Ahmed Osman, director general of Somalia’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, the ministry said.
Hassan thanked the European Union for its continued support to Somalia, particularly efforts to develop trade and expand economic opportunities.
The ministry did not announce any new agreement, funding commitment or specific project resulting from the meeting.
