Somalia, 11 August 2026 – Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) says seven Al-Shabab members were killed and several commanders wounded in a planned operation in Tawakal, Lower Shabelle region.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, NISA said the operation, carried out with support from international partners, targeted an Al-Shabab facility where senior members of the armed group had gathered.
The intelligence agency said the site was used by Al-Shabab commanders for private meetings and was targeted after intelligence indicated that several senior figures were present.
NISA identified those at the site as Yunis Macallim Abukar, whom it described as the group’s official responsible for the Mushaani area; Abu Haji Farey, a militant commander in Tawakal; Ayatullahi, a commander associated with Al-Shabab fighters in Lower Shabelle; and Abdifatah Roble, whom the agency said was responsible for collecting money for the group in Baladul-Amin.

According to NISA, preliminary information indicates that Yunis Macallim Abukar and Abdifatah Roble were seriously wounded in the operation.
The agency did not identify the international partners involved or provide details about the nature of their support.
The operation comes as Somali security forces, backed by international partners, continue military operations against Al-Shabab across parts of southern and central Somalia.
