Kenya, June 19 2026 - Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) basketball team Ulinzi Warriors will represent Kenya at the 54th International Military Sports Council (CISM) World Military Basketball Championship set to take place in Bourges, France, from June 27 to July 7.
The team heads to the global tournament aiming to compete against some of the world's top military basketball sides while showcasing the discipline, teamwork and resilience associated with military service.
The squad officially began its journey with a national flag handover ceremony held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex. The event was presided over by Director of Oversight, Compliance and Accountability (DOCA) Major General M.I. Iddi, who urged the players to strive for excellence and uphold high standards throughout the competition.
Major General Iddi challenged the team to remain focused on the assignment ahead and serve as worthy ambassadors of both the Kenya Defence Forces and the country. He also commended the players, coaches and officials for their commitment during preparations and reaffirmed the support of the KDF Sports Control Board in promoting military sports.
Ulinzi Warriors travel to France with an impressive record, having won the Kenya Basketball Federation title nine times. The team hopes to draw on its extensive experience and winning culture as it seeks success on the international stage.
Preparations for the championship have included intensive training sessions and a series of local and international friendly matches aimed at improving tactical awareness, strengthening team chemistry and enhancing competitiveness.

Team officials expressed confidence in the squad's readiness, citing the quality of preparations and the experience gained through recent friendly matches. They said the players remain focused on their goal of delivering a strong performance and challenging for the championship title.
Beyond competition, the tournament is expected to foster international military cooperation under the CISM motto, "Friendship Through Sport." The championship provides a platform for military personnel from different countries to interact, share experiences and strengthen professional relationships.
KDF said the team's participation reflects the growing importance of military sports in promoting excellence, discipline and international engagement.
