Kenya, August 3, 2026 - Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia was on Monday taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi for questioning after detectives arrested him outside the Royal Media Services studios over alleged inciteful political remarks.
The arrest followed an overnight standoff after Kaguchia claimed security officers had surrounded the media station and mounted roadblocks outside the premises following his appearance on Inooro TV's Kiririmbi programme.
"After my Kiririmbi Show this evening, a contingent of Police have surrounded Royal Media Studios and erected road blocks with intentions of arresting me! I will NOT BE INTIMIDATED whatsoever," Kaguchia wrote on social media on Sunday night.
According to witnesses, detectives remained stationed outside the media house throughout the night before moving in on Monday morning after the MP emerged from the premises.
The lawmaker was then driven to the DCI headquarters on Valley Road, where investigators are expected to question him over remarks allegedly made during a rally in Kieni, Nyeri County.
Kaguchia has maintained that he is being targeted over his political views, accusing government officials, including digital strategist Dennis Itumbi, of fuelling what he described as a false narrative against him.
His arrest follows widespread criticism of comments attributed to him suggesting that Mt Kenya residents would face consequences if they supported President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election. The remarks were condemned by political leaders, who described them as inflammatory.

Nairobi DCI Commander Daniel Kandie reportedly led the team that engaged Royal Media Services management before the MP was escorted from the premises and placed in a police vehicle.
His lawyers accompanied him after the arrest and said they were pursuing legal options as investigations continue. Kisii Senator Momoima Onyonka was also seen with the MP as he left the studios.
The operation disrupted traffic along Maalim Juma Road, off Dennis Pritt Road, where motorists reported heavy police presence and vehicle checks throughout Sunday night.
Kaguchia's arrest comes amid an intensified crackdown on leaders accused of making inflammatory political statements ahead of the 2027 General Election. The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has in recent weeks opened investigations into several politicians over remarks suspected of promoting ethnic hostility or incitement.
The DCI has not yet disclosed whether the MP will be formally charged after questioning.
