MOGADISHU (Dawan) – 03 AUG, 2026 – Somalia’s Ministry of Interior held a workshop with internal security stakeholders on Monday to prepare for the National Internal Security Conference set for September.
The meeting brought together security institutions under the Ministry of Interior, other government ministries involved in security affairs, members of both houses of the Federal Parliament and other partners supporting Somalia’s security efforts.
Director General of the Ministry of Interior, Mohamed Hassan Shire, said the workshop was aimed at preparing key issues that will be discussed during the upcoming Internal Security Conference, with focus on three main areas: oversight of security institutions, accountability and coordination among security agencies.
“Through this meeting, we are preparing for the Internal Security Conference that we will hold in September. The three issues we are focusing on are oversight of security institutions, accountability and coordination among security institutions,” Mohamed Shire said.

He said the government is working to strengthen security institutions so they can fully assume responsibility for national security, noting progress made in improving security conditions in cities and regions across the country.
“Challenges that exist will be addressed responsibly through government institutions, and we will continue working with the Somali people, because public cooperation is essential for security,” Shire added.
The Director General acknowledged that despite progress in the security sector, Somalia continues to face challenges that require joint efforts from government institutions and citizens.
The preparatory workshop is part of broader efforts to reform the security sector and establish a unified framework for cooperation among Somalia’s various security institutions.
