Mogadishu, 24 September 2026 Britain has pledged £5 million (about $6.6 million) to help Somalia prepare for possible flooding during the October to December Deyr rainy season, the British Embassy in Mogadishu said on Thursday.
The money will support early warning systems, help families move to safer areas and keep health, nutrition and water services available if flooding disrupts access. The embassy said up to 600,000 people could benefit, including residents of nearly 100 camps for internally displaced people.
The funding will be divided equally between two existing programmes. Caafimaad Plus, led by Action Against Hunger, will support essential services and help keep up to 71 health facilities operating. RESTORE, delivered by the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization, the International Organization for Migration and World Vision, will support flood preparedness, temporary relocation and cash assistance.

The embassy said Jowhar and Beletweyne were among the flood-prone areas expected to receive support. It estimated that 2.5 million to 3.5 million people across Somalia could be affected by flooding, though the extent will depend on the coming rains.
