November 18, 2025 - The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Ahmed Maalim Hassan has been declared the winner of the Banissa Constituency by-election, securing 10,431 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nurdin Maalim Mohamed of the UPA party, who garnered 1,240 votes.
The victory cements UDA’s strong foothold in Banissa after an extensive and energetic campaign effort in the region. The announcement, made shortly after midnight, sparked celebrations across Banissa as residents expressed renewed hope for effective representation in Parliament after nearly three years without an MP.
In his acceptance speech, MP-elect Ahmed Maalim Hassan thanked residents for their strong support, saying the people of Banissa had endured a long period of uncertainty. “Three years of waiting is now over. It is time to deliver services to our people and restore their trust,” he said.
He also extended an olive branch to his opponent, urging them to accept the results and join him in working together for unity and development in the constituency. Ahmed noted that his first priority once sworn into office would be to unite all communities in Banissa and champion peace as a foundation for progress.
