Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – Somalia’s government accused former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire of organizing armed militia that, it said, attacked a police facility in Banadir region's Howlwadaag district on Wednesday afternoon.
In a statement, the government said armed men with covered faces and heavy weapons targeted the Howlwadaag Police Station and nearby residential areas.
The government said it would not tolerate any attempt to undermine the security of the capital, disrupt the work of security forces, or create fear and instability.

The statement also said security agencies had launched an official investigation into the incident, adding that legal action would be taken against anyone found to have been involved.
Khaire had earlier accused the government of attacking him while meeting with the Murusade clan chief and traditional elders.
The incident comes amid rising political tension in Mogadishu over the planned opposition protest on Thursday.
