Kenya, May 05 ,2026 - The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has rescheduled its Ol Kalou Constituency nomination to Friday, May 8, in a calculated move to clinch the seat amid growing coordination within the Opposition.
The Nyandarua seat fell vacant following the death of three-term MP David Kiaraho, who had been elected on a Jubilee Party ticket under the leadership of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In a notice dated May 4, 2026, UDA’s National Elections Board (NEB) said the change in nomination date followed consultations with party members and aspirants in the constituency.
“Pursuant to the notice issued by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party National Elections Board on 26th April 2026, and in consideration of representations duly received from Party Members and Candidates in Ol Kalou Constituency, NOTICE is hereby given that the Party Nomination exercise… shall now be held on Friday, 8th May 2026,” the statement reads.
“All Party members and candidates are kindly advised to take note of the above changes,” adds the notice signed by NEB Chairman Anthony Mwaura.
The by-election is shaping up as an early political test for the ruling party as it seeks to expand its foothold in a Constituency previously aligned to Jubilee.

At the same time, Opposition forces are exploring a unified front to challenge UDA. Sources indicate that the Jubilee Party and the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, are considering backing a single candidate to consolidate their vote.
The broader United Opposition is also said to be deliberating on a joint ticket strategy, a move aimed at avoiding vote-splitting in what is expected to be a closely watched contest.
With UDA now moving to settle on its flagbearer, attention shifts to whether the Opposition will successfully rally behind one candidate, a factor likely to define the outcome of the impending by-election in Ol Kalou.
