Kenya, 15 June 2026 - Two women and a minor were on Monday arraigned at Garissa and charged with robbery with violence and abduction after spending seven days in police custody pending investigations into the alleged offences.
The three, Fartun Abdi Hassan, Hani Mohamed Salim, and a minor denied the two counts before Garissa resident Magistrate Rachael Ng’ang’a.
A fourth suspect was however discharged.
The investigating officer Benard Ogola attached to Iftin Police Station said an identification parade was done at the station where the victim only identified in court as MD positively identified the three accused.
The fourth suspect Ayan Ahmed was released since she was not identified by the victim.
However, the investigating officer said she might be re-arrested and face charges should the ongoing investigation implicate her.
According to the charge sheet the three, on 5 June 2026 abducted MD at Baraka Bazaar within Garissa township and subjected her to grievance harm and rape.
The court secured a state lawyer to represent the minor, whom the magistrate had ordered that her age be determined when they were first arraigned.

“I have a six-month-old baby, I haven’t yet breastfeed since I was arrested, I would like the court to grant me bond," said Fartun, noting that the father of her two children passed.
Resident Magistrate Rachael Ng’ang’a released the suspects with KSh 500,000 bond and cash bail of KSh 300,000 each. The case will be mentioned on 1 July 2026.
Last week on Monday, the four suspects - including one set free - were first arraigned where the investigating officer requested for seven days to complete the investigation, the request that was granted.
