MOGADISHU, Somalia, September 14, 2026 — Towfiiq Political Organization accused Somalia’s electoral commission on Monday of deliberately excluding it from the repeat Galmudug election, linking the move to its successful legal challenge that led to the annulment of the previous vote.
Towfiiq said it remains ready to participate in the repeat election and other electoral processes without conditions, provided they are conducted in accordance with Somalia’s electoral laws, regulations and established procedures.
The organization rejected the Independent National Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s decision to leave it off the newly announced list of political organizations participating in the rerun and called on the commission to reconsider the decision.
Towfiiq alleged that its exclusion was deliberate and connected to the legal case it brought against the results of the July 30 Galmudug election.
It called on the commission to avoid actions that could be viewed as biased or discriminatory and urged it to administer the electoral process impartially and in accordance with the law.
Towfiiq also called on President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to intervene, citing his responsibility to safeguard the Constitution and state institutions.
The organization urged its supporters to prepare for peaceful meetings and demonstrations over the decision while reiterating its readiness to participate in the repeat election.

The electoral commission, however, has denied that Towfiiq’s absence from the list was politically motivated.
The commission said the deadline for political organizations to submit their candidate lists expired on September 12 and that 12 organizations completed their submissions within the required timeframe.
It said Towfiiq and Dowladda Wanaagsan Soomaaliyeed were not included because they did not submit their candidate lists before the deadline, maintaining that the list was drawn up according to established electoral procedures.
Towfiiq participated in the Galmudug election held on July 30 before challenging the results in Somalia’s Supreme Court.
On August 24, the Supreme Court annulled the election results after ruling that the process did not comply with the Constitution and electoral laws and ordered a repeat election.
The latest dispute places Towfiiq and the electoral commission at odds ahead of the rerun, with the organization demanding that it be allowed to participate and the commission maintaining that its exclusion resulted from missing the candidate submission deadline.
