Kenya, 9 July 2026 - Two men have been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Mombasa court after they were convicted in separate cases of defiling four children in Changamwe and Jomvu sub-counties.
Resident Magistrate Green Odera handed down the sentences after finding that the prosecution had proved the offences beyond reasonable doubt.
In the first case, 32-year-old Darius Mboga, alias Kevo, was convicted of defiling three boys aged nine, 12 and 16 between 2021 and May 2022.
The court heard that Mboga, a barber operating in the Msikiti Noor area of Changamwe, took in the boys after the death of their mother but instead subjected them to repeated sexual abuse.
The offences were uncovered after a teacher noticed that one of the boys was having difficulty walking. When questioned, the child disclosed the abuse, prompting police investigations.
Medical examinations conducted at Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital confirmed the abuse, with the findings corroborating the victims' testimony.
Principal Prosecution Counsel Purity Musembi led the prosecution, calling six witnesses whose evidence the court found credible and consistent.
In a separate case, the court sentenced 24-year-old boda boda rider Hassan Bakari Kombo to life imprisonment for defiling an eight-year-old girl in Mnazi Mmoja, Mikindani, Jomvu Sub-county.

The prosecution told the court that the girl was assaulted on December 7, 2024, after her guardian left her in the accused's care while reporting to work.
The child later informed her mother, who reported the matter to the police. Medical evidence presented in court supported the girl's account and rebutted the accused's claim that he had been falsely implicated.
Five witnesses testified in the case before the court found Kombo guilty.
Both convicts were granted 14 days to appeal against their convictions and sentences.
The convictions were secured by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
