Kenya, 9 May 2026 - Detectives have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of PCEA cleric Reverend Julius Ndumia Ngari, as investigators widen their probe into what authorities now believe could be a larger criminal network.
In an update issued on Saturday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspects were arrested following what it described as “extensive forensic and intelligence-led investigations” involving multiple specialised units.
The murder, which shocked worshippers and residents in Nakuru, happened at PCEA Tabuga Church in Nakuru North Sub-County on the night of May 3.
According to the DCI, Reverend Ndumia was “brutally murdered” during an attack that also left church watchman Bernard Nyamwaka seriously injured.
Investigators said the attackers broke into both the church office and the cleric’s residence before escaping with valuables.
“The attackers broke into the church office and the reverend’s residence, stealing cash, mobile phones, and other valuables,” the statement said.
The suspects were reportedly found with items believed to have been stolen from the slain pastor.
“The suspects were found in possession of valuables confirmed to be among the items stolen from the late Reverend,” the DCI stated.
Authorities said the two are currently in custody undergoing interrogation as investigations continue.
The probe has drawn in officers from the Homicide Unit, Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CR&IB), Operation Support Unit (OSU), and detectives from Nakuru North.

While announcing the arrests, the DCI suggested that the killing may not have been an isolated incident.
“Detectives are conducting advanced forensic analyses and meticulously reviewing critical evidence believed to be linked to a wider criminal network behind this heinous act,” the agency said.
The murder has sparked grief within the PCEA fraternity and among residents, with many calling for swift justice.
The DCI condemned the attack, describing it as “senseless and violent,” and assured the public that all those involved would be pursued.
“Every effort is being made to apprehend all individuals involved and ensure they face the full force of the law,” the statement added.
Police also thanked members of the public and the church community for cooperating with investigators and sharing information.
The agency urged anyone with information linked to the case to report to the nearest police station or anonymously through the #FichuaKwaDCI platform.
