MOGADISHU, 25 October 2026 A delegation from the Turkish Space Agency, led by the agency’s Vice President, Fatih Dulkan, has inspected ongoing work in Warsheikh, where Türkiye is building a space centre designed for launching satellites.
The delegation was accompanied by representatives from Türkiye’s Ministry of Industry and Technology, the Secretariat of Defence Industries and Roketsan, Türkiye’s largest missile manufacturer. The delegation also held meetings with government officials in Mogadishu.
The inspection is part of efforts to monitor the project’s progress. Earlier this year, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan confirmed that the first phase of the three-phase project had been completed and that construction was under way, under the supervision of the Turkish Space Agency.
International media have reported that construction of the centre began in mid-October 2025 and that it is located on the outskirts of Warsheikh, about 70 km north of Mogadishu.

Turkish government estimates indicate the project could cost more than $350 million. Somalia was chosen for its location near the equator, which makes rocket launches easier and reduces the fuel required.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has previously said the project will create jobs and revenue for Somalia, noting that hosting a launch site for Turkish satellites carries even greater meaning than the billions of dollars it will bring.
The visit reflects the growing cooperation between Türkiye and Somalia, which extends to space, industry, technology and the defence industry.
