May 27, 2026 - Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi has dismissed social media claims of divisions among political leaders ahead of the historic Madaraka Day celebrations set to be hosted in the county.
Speaking after Eidul Adha prayers at Hodhan Primary School in Wajir Town, the Governor said all leaders are involved in the preparations and mobilisation efforts for the national celebrations, which will be the first of their kind to be held in the North Eastern region.
“Those things you are seeing on social media are propaganda and rumours. All leaders, including Wajir Members of Parliament, will attend and are actually part of the planning for the holiday,” he told worshippers.
In recent days, social media speculation has emerged over alleged divisions among leaders, with some supporters debating who should receive credit for lobbying the government to host the Madaraka Day celebrations in Wajir County.
While supporters of the Governor claim he played a key role in requesting President William Ruto to host the event in Wajir, others have linked Eldas Member of Parliament Aden Keynan to the lobbying efforts.
There have also been claims that opposition-allied lawmakers critical of the ruling party may skip the event — speculation the Governor dismissed as false.
Abdullahi praised President William Ruto for agreeing to host the national celebrations in Wajir, saying the President could have chosen more developed regions.

The Governor added that thousands of people from neighbouring counties such as Garissa and Mandera are expected to travel to Wajir for the celebrations.
He urged residents to warmly welcome visitors during the national event.
“I also call upon our residents to embrace social responsibility by safeguarding our environment and ensuring cleanliness within our town. A clean and orderly Wajir is a shared responsibility and a reflection of our values as a people,” he said.
The Governor was accompanied by Wajir Senator Abass Sheikh and Wajir North Member of Parliament Ibrahim Abdi Saney during the Eid prayers.
