Mogadishu, 25 August 2026 Leaders of the ruling Justice and Solidarity Party (JSP), including President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, have agreed to comply with a Supreme Court ruling annulling Galmudug's elections and to accept a rerun, officials told Dawan.
The party agreed during a meeting in Mogadishu on Monday night not to challenge the court's decision and to support fresh polls held under the Constitution and electoral law, sources said.
On Monday, Chief Justice Bashe Yusuf Ahmed annulled the results of Galmudug's July 30 combined House of Representatives and local council elections, saying they did not comply with the Constitution and electoral law and had no legal validity.
The court ordered the Independent National Electoral and Boundaries Commission to rerun the polls at the earliest feasible date.
