Somalia, 12 May 2026 Somalia’s electoral commission said the South West State elections preliminary results will be announced within 24 hours after votes are verified and tallied.
The commission said the process was progressing smoothly in line with national electoral laws.
“The commission is overseeing the verification and reconciliation of results from polling stations,” the commission's chairman, Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, said.
Hassan said vote counting at polling stations was officially completed late Monday night, while election materials were safely transferred to district commission offices early Tuesday morning.
He added that all polling station results had been submitted in accordance with legal procedures and electoral guidelines.
“Once the verification and final tabulation process is completed, the commission will announce the preliminary election results within 24 hours,” Hassan said.

The commission also said it had not yet received any formal complaints related to the voting process or the management of polling stations.
At the same time, the commission warned political parties, media outlets and individuals against publishing unofficial election results, saying anyone doing so could face legal action.
“No entity other than the commission has the legal authority to announce or publish election results,” Hassan said.
The commission also said it was investigating reports that some political parties may have violated the election code of conduct by campaigning inside or near polling stations on election day.
