Somalia, 28 April 2026 — Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said political tensions in the country do not indicate a collapse of the state, urging traditional elders to remain calm amid growing criticism from opposition figures.
Speaking on Monday evening to elders gathered in Mogadishu for the inauguration of a Murusade clan leader, Mohamud said concerns over the political situation should not be exaggerated.
“There is no country collapsing and no people dividing,” he said.

Mohamud acknowledged that Somalia’s political environment is often marked by intense debate and public discourse, but said such dynamics should not be interpreted as signs of state failure.
“Politics is noisy… you will hear our voices everywhere,” he said. “But nothing is collapsing or destroying the country and the state.”
His remarks come amid criticism from some opposition figures, who have accused the federal government of steering the country toward state collapse and social division.
