Somalia, January 23 2026 - Somalia's National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said on Friday it has arrested a five-member terror cell affiliated with Al Shabaab which was planning attacks in the capital, Mogadishu.
NISA, which had been closely monitoring the network's movements, said the suspects intended to secretly enter the city to carry out acts against the security and stability of the capital.
During the operation, NISA agents also seized various types of explosives, weapons, and a vehicle the group planned to use in their attacks.

The arrested individuals, described by NISA as members of Shabaab, will be transferred to judicial authorities for prosecution.
NISA thanked Somali citizens for their ongoing cooperation and support, urging the public to share any information regarding security threats or information related to Al Shabaab or Islamic State militants via their hotline numbers.
