Somalia, 24 January 2025 Multiple opposition sources told Dawan Africa that leaders of Puntland and Jubbaland states, Said Abdullahi Deni and Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe), have agreed to participate in the national dialogue conference, planned to be held in Mogadishu in early February.
The decision comes after leaders of the Somali Future Council held a series of meetings in Nairobi since last Thursday to assess the Federal Government’s proposal for a national dialogue conference, the sources said.
According to the sources, the anticipated statement from the Somali Future Council is also expected to confirm the opposition’s agreement to establish a technical committee to represent it in preparations for the dialogue process.

The move follows calls by the United Nations, the European Union, and Britain urging the opposition to accept the government’s invitation.
The Somali Future Council comprises the Alliance of the Somali Salvation Forum, as well as the leadership of Puntland and Jubbaland states.
