Somalia, Aug. 2 2026– Somalia's National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has delivered aid to 6,500 vulnerable and displaced families in Puntland region, the agency said on Saturday, in a move that could signal improved cooperation with the administration after a previous dispute over aid deliveries.
In a statement, SoDMA said the assistance reached families in the towns of Galkayo, Jariiban and Goldogob who have been affected by recurring drought, displacement and the effects of climate change.The agency said priority was given to households facing the most severe humanitarian conditions to ensure the aid reached those most in need.
Relations between Somalia's federal government and Puntland have been strained in recent years over political and constitutional disputes, with cooperation between federal institutions and the regional administration often affected.

In January 2025, SoDMA said it had delivered 200 metric tons of food aid to the port city of Bosaso, but Puntland authorities denied receiving the shipment, saying no assistance had been delivered by the federal government or the disaster agency.
The latest aid distribution appears to mark a resumption of cooperation between SoDMA and Puntland on humanitarian assistance.
SoDMA said it would continue delivering humanitarian assistance to communities affected by drought, flooding and other climate-related emergencies across Somalia.
