Somalia’s Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League Ali Abdi Awari chaired the meeting of African ambassadors in Cairo on Monday.
The meeting reviewed the group’s recent activities, discussed priorities for the coming period, and explored ways to strengthen diplomatic coordination and cooperation among African countries.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Awari said Somalia was honoured to host the meeting, reaffirming the country’s longstanding commitment to African unity and closer continental cooperation. He also highlighted progress under Somalia Vision 2060, which focuses on strengthening security and stability, building state institutions, promoting economic growth, and expanding Somalia’s engagement with African countries and the wider international community.

The Somali Embassy in Cairo also screened a documentary showcasing the Federal Government’s achievements and Somalia Vision 2060, highlighting the country’s development progress, investment opportunities, and long-term strategic goals. African ambassadors commended Somalia for hosting the meeting and praised the reforms and development progress presented during the session.
Separately, Ambassador Awari participated in a farewell ceremony organized by the Arab League to honour Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit and Assistant Secretary-General Hossam Zaki, following completion of their terms in office.
During the ceremony, the Somali ambassador presented commemorative shields to Aboul Gheit and Zaki in recognition of their contributions to joint Arab action and to strengthening the role of the Arab League. He also presented a commemorative shield in honour of the late Ambassador Mohamed Kamal El-Din Salah, recognizing his diplomatic service and national sacrifice. The award was received by his daughter, Laila.
Ambassador Awari said honouring distinguished Arab leaders and diplomatic figures reflects the values of gratitude and recognition shared among Arab states, and wished both Aboul Gheit and Zaki continued success in their future endeavours.
