Somalia, 13 August 2026 — Somalia and the United Kingdom discussed strengthening disaster preparedness and response amid climate risks and El Niño forecasts, Somalia's National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) said on Thursday.
SoDMA Chairman Mahmoud Moallin Abdulle met with UK Development Director Chris Pycroft to review Somalia’s humanitarian situation and assess climate-related threats, the agency said.
The talks focused on boosting Somalia’s capacity to respond to disasters, including droughts and floods, SoDMA said.

Pycroft reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting Somalia and vulnerable communities, particularly during humanitarian emergencies and climate-related crises, according to the agency.
Abdulle thanked the UK government for its continued support in humanitarian assistance, disaster preparedness and strengthening community resilience, SoDMA said.
The discussions come as Somalia continues to face humanitarian challenges linked to climate shocks that threaten livelihoods and communities across the country.
