MOGADISHU, April 28 April, 2026 Somalia and the United Nations Transition Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS) held talks on the country’s political transition and evolving security landscape, the foreign ministry said.
The discussions took place on Tuesday between State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ali Mohamed Omar and a UNTMIS delegation led by Officer-in-Charge Raisedon Zenenga, according to a ministry statement.
Talks focused on the transition of the UN mission and broader political and security developments in Somalia.
The Somali side reiterated its commitment to a Somali-led transition aimed at strengthening national institutions and consolidating gains in peace and state-building.

Both sides also stressed the need for continued coordination to ensure international support remains aligned with Somalia’s national priorities.
UNTMIS, established in November 2024, is a two-year transition mission replacing the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia and is expected to hand over its functions to Somali institutions by October 2026.
