Mogadishu, 8 September 2026 Somalia and the U.N. refugee agency on Monday discussed developing a new cooperation framework defining priority areas, coordination mechanisms and the roles of both sides, the Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development said.
Minister of Planning, Investment and Economic Development Mohamud Sheikh Farah ‘Beenebeene’ received UNHCR Deputy Representative and Acting Representative in Somalia Jing Song at his office, with discussions focusing on strengthening cooperation.
The two sides discussed aligning UNHCR programmes with the priorities of the National Transformation Plan, particularly in planning, coordination, monitoring and evaluation.

The meeting also addressed strengthening cooperation on data and evidence-based approaches to support planning and decision-making, the ministry said.The ministry and UNHCR agreed to develop a new framework that supports the implementation of national priorities.
The meeting also discussed preparations for an event marking the 75th anniversary of the 1951 Refugee Convention, which will be held during the U.N. General Assembly session.
