Somalia, 01 July 2026 – Somali Disaster Management officials and United Nations representatives visited Buur Hakaba district in Bay region to assess the humanitarian situation and identify priority needs, the agency said on Tuesday.
The delegation was led by SoDMA Commissioner, Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, and included South West State’s minister for humanitarian affairs and disaster management, Abdinasir Abdi Arush. as well as U.N. officials led by George Conway, the deputy special representative of the U.N. secretary-general and humanitarian coordinator for Somalia.
SoDMA said the visit was Abdulle’s second to Buur Hakaba and reflected continued efforts to monitor humanitarian conditions and accelerate assistance to communities affected by drought and other emergencies.
During the visit, the delegation met community representatives from 373 villages under Buur Hakaba district and received briefings on local needs and the humanitarian situation.

The officials also inspected the district’s main water dam, which SoDMA said needs urgent repairs to improve access to water and reduce the impact of drought.
Abdulle said the assessment showed that humanitarian needs remain in the district and stressed the importance of stronger coordination between the federal government, federal member states, U.N. agencies and humanitarian partners.
He said such cooperation was needed to speed up assistance and address the needs of affected communities.
