August 14 ,2026 - Cabinet Secretary for Defence Aden Duale has said the ongoing national identity card registration exercise in Fafi Constituency will help end historical vetting of residents in the region and ease access to government services.
Speaking during a development and community engagement tour of Bura East, Duale said the exercise was being undertaken in line with President William Ruto’s directive to end discriminatory barriers that have historically affected residents seeking identification documents.
At the Bura East Sub-County Headquarters, the CS launched and inspected the ongoing registration exercise, saying the streamlined process would enable eligible citizens to obtain identification and travel documents without unnecessary hurdles.
“The streamlined process is ensuring eligible citizens can access identification and travel documents without discriminatory barriers,” Duale said.
He also visited registration desks operated by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), where he urged residents who had not registered as voters to take advantage of the continuous voter registration exercise ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Duale said active civic participation was important in enabling residents to influence decisions affecting their communities and the country at large.
The CS further inspected healthcare programmes at Bura Sub-County Hospital, where he reviewed progress in registration under the Social Health Authority (SHA).
He said the number of residents registered under SHA had risen threefold, from 6,000 to 18,000, describing the increase as a significant step towards expanding access to affordable and quality healthcare.
The tour ended with the opening of the new Bura Jamia Mosque, which was constructed through three years of contributions by local residents.
Duale commended the community for mobilising resources and working together to complete the project.
He said the mosque would serve not only as a place of worship but also as a centre for social cohesion, character formation and nurturing a morally upright generation.
The visit was part of the Government’s efforts to strengthen access to national services and promote community-led development in northern Kenya, while encouraging residents to participate more actively in national programmes and civic affairs.
