Somalia, 25 June 2026 – Somalia’s Data Protection Authority concluded a five-day training programme for public and private institutions on implementing Data Protection Law, the authority said on Wednesday.
The training was closed by the authority’s Director General, Mohamed Nur Olow, and focused on the implementation of the Data Protection Law, which was approved in 2023.
The Data Protection Act, Law No. 005 of 2023, was signed in March 2023 and established the Data Protection Authority as Somalia’s national body responsible for protecting personal data, upholding privacy rights and promoting responsible data practices across public and private sectors.
Participants included staff and stakeholders from institutions that handle personal data, including government agencies and private-sector organisations.
The programme covered the basics of data privacy, data protection principles, the importance of protecting public data and the responsibilities of institutions and individuals who manage personal information.
