LAS ANOD, Somalia — The Chairperson of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) Mohamoud Moallim Abdulle and the Mayor of Las Anod Abdirahim Ali Ismail have jointly inaugurated a new emergency response centre for Somalia’s North East State.
The facility is the first emergency response centre established by the regional administration and was developed through cooperation between SoDMA and the Government of China.
The opening comes as part of efforts to strengthen emergency response and disaster management services in the region, following a directive by Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.
The SoDMA Chairperson described the centre as the first phase of a broader project planned for the North East State.

“This project is part of a larger initiative that we want to implement in the North East State. The first phase has now been completed, while the remaining phases, including storage facilities, will follow,” the SoDMA Chairperson said.
The officials also launched the Humanitarian Assistance and Drought Response Programme for the North East State, which will benefit communities in districts across Sanaag, Sool and Togdheer regions.
Prime Minister Barre had previously announced plans to establish up to eight key facilities in the North East State to support the delivery of government services.
The inauguration marks one of the first major steps in establishing public-service infrastructure for the state, particularly in the areas of humanitarian assistance, emergency response and disaster management.
