Somalia, 22 October 2025 — Somalia’s Financial Reporting Centre (FRC) has launched a three-day training program to strengthen compliance and reporting practices among officials from the Ministry of Justice and Constitution, as well as Designated Non-Financial Businesses and Professions (DNFBPs), including lawyers and notaries.
The training, which began on Tuesday in Mogadishu, will continue until 23 October 2025. According to the FRC, the sessions focus on improving participants’ technical knowledge and compliance capacity in implementing Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) measures.
Officials said the initiative is intended to strengthen understanding of reporting obligations, promote a culture of integrity, and foster closer cooperation between the Ministry of Justice, DNFBPs, the FRC, and other regulatory institutions in combating financial crimes.
The FRC stated that the program reflects its broader efforts to build institutional capacity, promote transparency and accountability, and ensure that legal professionals actively contribute to safeguarding Somalia’s financial system from money laundering and terrorist financing risks.
The initiative comes after Somalia amended its AML/CFT Act in May 2025 with technical support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) — a step seen as key to improving the country’s financial transparency and compliance with Financial Action Task Force (FATF) standards.
