Somalia, 7 December 2025 —Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre met with Qatar’s Ambassador to Somalia Abdullah Bin Salim Al-Nuaymi, today to discuss the current humanitarian crisis caused by the severe drought ravaging the country.
A statement from the Prime Minister's office said the discussions focused on ways of addressing the crisis which has affected 4.4 million Somalis, and continued support for development projects backed by Qatar in Somalia.
Prime Minister Barre expressed gratitude for Qatar’s significant role in supporting the country’s state-building efforts, particularly in the humanitarian sector, including aid to those affected by the recurring drought.

The statement also noted that Ambassador Al-Nuaymi reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to supporting Somalia, emphasizing the country’s role in continuing humanitarian efforts and addressing the challenges faced by the Somali people.
The statement added that the Somali government remains committed to strengthening its partnerships with international allies and organizations to ensure sustained support for communities impacted by the drought.
