Somalia, July 11 – Somalia's Ministry of Health and Qatar Charity signed a cooperation agreement on Friday to implement 39 health projects worth more than 5.3 million Qatari riyals ($1.46 million), with programmes expected to benefit more than 36,000 people across the country in 2026.
The agreement was signed in Mogadishu during a ceremony attended by Somalia's Minister of Health, Ali Haji Adam, Qatar's Deputy Ambassador to Somalia and officials from thr federal government and Qatar Charity.
Speaking at the ceremony, Qatar Charity's Country Director, Ibrahim Abdulrahman Janahi, said the projects would focus on malnutrition treatment, paediatric cardiac care, cataract surgery and the treatment of chronic diseases.
"During 2026, 39 health projects valued at more than 5.3 million Qatari riyals have been funded, and, God willing, more than 36,000 people in Somalia will benefit from them," Janahi said.
He said the organisation would continue launching specialised health initiatives aimed at improving the quality of healthcare services and expanding access for the country's most vulnerable communities.

Health Minister Adam thanked Qatar Charity and the Qatari government for their continued humanitarian support for Somalia's health sector.
He said Qatar Charity had supported child heart surgery, cataract operations and the construction of maternal and child health centres, adding that the projects had contributed to reducing maternal and child mortality.
"Somalia's health sector is going through a difficult period, with external funding having declined significantly," Ali said. "Qatar Charity has become an important partner in helping the ministry achieve its key health objectives."
He also praised Qatar's continued support for Somalia, saying it had remained consistent regardless of political changes in the country, and called for additional assistance and an expansion of health programmes in the years ahead.
