Ankara (Dawan Africa) – Somalia’s telecom regulator chief Mustafa Yasin Sheikh attended the International Telecommunication Union’s 26th Global Symposium for Regulators in Ankara.
The annual global forum brought together heads of communications regulatory authorities, policymakers, technology industry leaders and digital stakeholders from around the world. They discussed emerging regulatory trends and the future of digital transformation.
This year’s symposium was focused on building regulatory frameworks that support a resilient, inclusive digital future, while responding to the needs of modern societies and economies.

Sheikh spoke about the requirements needed to implement regulatory sandboxes — a testing mechanism that allows regulators to trial new digital services in a limited legal environment before they are fully introduced to the market.
The authority said its participation in the forum is part of efforts to strengthen Somalia’s communications regulatory system and advance digital services in the country, with a focus on connectivity, security, innovation and broader public inclusion.
