Somalia, 5 May 2026 Somali Region Weather Centre warned above-normal heavy rains across the region in the coming days.
The warning comes at the beginning of the Gu rainy season, as communities across the region prepare to cultivate their farms and benefit from seasonal rainfall.
According to the weather centre, heavy rains are expected in Jigjiga and surrounding areas, with rainfall levels ranging between 50 and 75 millimetres. The districts of Harshin and Qabribayah in Fafan region are also forecast to receive between 75 and 100 millimetres of rain, among the highest levels in the rainfall forecast.
Qoraxay and Doollo regions are also among the areas expected to receive above-normal rainfall, increasing the risk of flash floods and flooding.

The centre said the greatest risk is likely to affect low-lying areas, valleys, seasonal streams, river channels and other waterways, where large volumes of water could flow rapidly.
Hashi Lehelow, head of early warning at the Weather Forecasting Centre, said the expected rains could be strong and may trigger floods if communities do not take extra precautions.
The weather centre urged residents, particularly those living near rivers, valleys, streams and seasonal waterways, to stay away from flood-prone areas and remain alert during the expected heavy rains.
