Ethiopia, 30 April 2026 Ethiopia’s Somali region will create an association to link farm investors and growers, the regional agriculture office said Wednesday.
The proposal was discussed at a meeting held in Jigjiga, which brought together officials, investors and business representatives.
The region's Agriculture Minister Abdullahi Mohamed Muse said the initiative aims to create a platform where investors and authorities can coordinate and resolve issues affecting agricultural production.
“We have convened investors and business operators to form an association that can represent their interests and help address challenges in the sector,” he said.

Participants highlighted issues including climate variability affecting crop yields, taxation concerns and limited access to financing, the office said.
Representatives from the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia outlined loan conditions for agricultural investors, following a financing agreement aimed at supporting the sector.
Officials said a preparatory committee has been established to advance the formation of the association, which is expected to facilitate dialogue between the government and private investors.
The initiative is part of efforts by the regional government to boost agricultural production and encourage private sector investment.
