Ethiopia, 11 May 2026 Somali region opened a $2.4 million road project in Godey on Monday to improve urban transport, state TV said.
The project was launched by Somali Regional State President, Mustafe Mohamed Omar, according to Somali Regional Television (SRTV).
The project includes 3.3 kilometres of asphalt concrete roads built to DC-5 standard with a width of 14 meters.
The roads include Eleele Road, Wacaysaad Road, Tawakal Road, Waabiin Road and the University Road, officials said.
Authorities said the new roads are expected to play a significant role in improving transportation, economic activity and the appearance of Godey.

The project was funded by the Somali Regional State Roads Office, while construction was carried out by China Railway Seventh Group.
Regional authorities said the contract for the project was signed in January 2023, with construction beginning the same month.
The total project cost reached 371.1 million birr, equivalent to about $2.4 million.
The Somali Regional State has expanded investment in roads, water infrastructure and public services in recent years as part of broader efforts to improve urban development and regional connectivity.
