Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met members of the country’s civil society on Sunday to discuss their role in advancing peacebuilding, reconciliation, and national stability.
According to a statement issued by the Somali Presidency, the discussions also focused on civil society participation in completing Somalia’s democratic processes, strengthening state institutions, and supporting progress in security, governance, and direct elections.
President Hassan Sheikh highlighted the importance of civil society in promoting social cohesion, reinforcing internal peace, and safeguarding citizens’ rights, describing civil society groups as a key pillar of reconciliation and stabilization efforts in Somalia.

The meeting also explored ways to strengthen cooperation between the government and civil society in public awareness campaigns, conflict resolution initiatives, and efforts to build public trust.
The president commended civil society organizations for their contribution to peacebuilding programmes and stressed the need for closer collaboration between state institutions and citizens.
Civil society representatives, in turn, shared recommendations on expanding reconciliation efforts, promoting peace in conflict-affected areas, and encouraging broader public participation to support national unity and long-term stability.
