Somalia, (Dawan Africa) – A group of Somali politicians has launched a new political platform, Midnimo Qaran, as the country faces mounting political tensions over elections, constitutional reforms and relations between the federal government and the federal member states.
The platform brings together politicians seeking to position themselves as a centrist political force focused on dialogue, national cohesion and consensus-building ahead of crucial discussions on Somalia’s electoral future.
Former Somali Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke said the initiative aims to narrow political divisions and help resolve disputes surrounding the electoral process and Somalia’s broader political transition.
“We realised the need to establish our own platform as a political bloc called Midnimo Qaran, bringing together people from different backgrounds across Somalia,” Sharmarke said in an interview with Dawan Media.

He said the platform would work to support a credible electoral process while promoting political stability and rebuilding trust among key political stakeholders.
The launch comes as Somalia continues to face disputes over its electoral framework, including disagreements over election laws, constitutional reforms and the role of the federal member states.
Sharmarke said Midnimo Qaran would present proposals aimed at helping political leaders reach consensus on an electoral model suited to Somalia’s political realities and current circumstances.
He also stressed the importance of sustained dialogue between the federal government, opposition groups and regional administrations, warning that deepening political divisions could undermine national stability.
