Somalia, 7 April 2026 Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre said Thursday Mogadishu’s security is under threat as opposition called May 10 protest, urging them to offer solutions or agree proposal at talks.
In a video shared on the Prime Minister's Facebook page, Barre explained that Mogadishu’s improved security is as a result of sacrifices made by its people, including their blood and wealth, reflected in the taxes the government collects.
He emphasized that the stability of Mogadishu depends on cooperation and political understanding, and warned that the opposition's inflammatory messages are undermining public trust and security.
"Political threats and unresolved tensions will disrupt the city's and the country's stability," the PM said.

Speaking directly to the opposition, Hamza noted that seeking power should not lead to chaos but should come through peaceful resolutions and dialogue.
He added that the consultative meeting called by the president is the avenue for finding solutions, and called for the opposition to either present their own solutions or support the proposals to be presented.
The statement from the Prime Minister comes as the opposition has called for protests on the same day, May 10, when a meeting between the government and opposition is scheduled to take place to discuss election and constitutional matters.
May 10 is also the day South West State local elections are being held.
