Hirshabelle (Dawan Africa) – The Somali National Army and Mawisley forces have claimed the elimination of two notorious Al-Shabaab commanders in a joint operation conducted in the Hiraan region, specifically in the sub-district of Gumare, Moqokori on Saturday 5th July. The operation, which occurred early this morning, also resulted in the death of over ten Al-Shabaab militants.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Defense, the operation was launched in response to an Al-Shabaab attack on Gumare at approximately 5:45 AM. Somali National Army and local forces quickly mobilized to counter the assault. After several hours of intense fighting, the Somali forces, supported by Mawisley, successfully repelled the militants, securing the area and killing over ten Al-Shabaab fighters.
Spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, Abuukar Mohamed Hassan, confirmed that Somali forces also targeted Al-Shabaab hideouts in Gulane, Daru-nima, and Alkowsar in the Middle Shabelle region, leading to the death of two high-ranking commanders, Mohamed Adow and Ali Xabad. The commanders were known for orchestrating numerous attacks and abuses against local communities.
“The operation in Gulane resulted in the killing of two notorious commanders, Mohamed Adow and Ali Habad, who had been terrorizing the community,” said Hassan.
The Ministry of Defense lauded the quick and effective response of the Somali National Army and Mawisley forces, emphasizing their ongoing commitment to maintaining peace and security across the country. The two forces have been actively engaged in operations against Al-Shabaab in the Middle Shabelle and Hiiraan regions, which have become key battlegrounds in the fight against the militant group.
