Somalia, 7 May 2026 – The Somali Disaster Management Agency issued a flood alert for southern and central Somalia as heavy rains are expected from May 6 to May 13.
SoDMA said Gedo, Bay, Bakool and Jubaland, and other areas of the Juba region are forecast to receive 80mm to 100mm of rainfall, significantly higher than the usual 50mm. Heavy rains are also expected in the Shabelle regions, Banadir, and Lower Shabelle, which may lead to flooding.
The report indicated that the rains will also affect coastal and rural areas, causing significant changes to the climate and creating potential hazards.

SoADMA also warned about the rising water levels of rivers, especially the Shabelle River, which could lead to overflow, posing a threat to nearby communities.
The agency urged those living in flood-prone areas to exercise caution and prepare for any emergencies.
