Finland, June 11,2026 - President William Ruto has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening its digital economy through strategic partnerships with global technology firms, following a meeting with executives of telecommunications giant Nokia in Finland.
The meeting, held alongside Finnish President Alexander Stubb, focused on expanding cooperation in digital infrastructure, connectivity, fintech and innovation as Kenya seeks to position itself as a leading technology hub in Africa.
Ruto said the digital economy, digital commerce and financial technology are central to Kenya’s development agenda, driving innovation, financial inclusion and creating new opportunities for businesses and citizens.
“Alongside President Alexander Stubb, I met executives of Nokia, a global technology leader whose presence in Kenya has strengthened our position as a digital hub and gateway to East Africa,” the President said.
He noted that the government is undertaking major investments in digital infrastructure, including the expansion of the national fibre optic network and establishment of ICT hubs across the country to enhance connectivity and support the growth of the digital economy.
“As we expand our national fibre optic network, digital infrastructure and ICT hubs, we look forward to deepening our collaboration and leveraging Nokia’s expertise to accelerate digital transformation and connectivity,” Ruto said.

The President said Kenya sees significant opportunities to combine Finnish technological innovation with Kenya’s entrepreneurial spirit to unlock new investments and drive economic growth.
“Together, we see significant potential to combine Finnish innovation and technology with Kenya’s entrepreneurial dynamism to build a stronger ecosystem for business, investment and innovation across Africa,” he added.
Nokia, one of the world’s leading telecommunications and networking companies, has maintained a presence in Kenya for more than two decades and has played a key role in supporting the country’s telecommunications infrastructure.
The engagement forms part of President Ruto’s official visit to Finland, where he is seeking to strengthen bilateral ties, attract investment and expand cooperation in key sectors including technology, education, clean energy and innovation.
Kenya has identified the digital economy as a major pillar of its economic transformation strategy, with the government targeting increased internet connectivity, digital skills development, e-commerce growth and technology-driven job creation.
