Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – Russia on Friday delivered 25 tons of emergency aid to Somalia to help families affected by drought and difficult living conditions.
The aid, includes food supplies and essential items such as tents and blankets.
The consignment was handed over to Somali government officials at Aden Abdulle International Airport.
Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) Commissioner Mohamud Moallim Abdulle thanked the Russian government for its continued support to Somalia during difficult times.
“I thank the Russian Ambassador responsible for Somalia and Djibouti, and the Russian disaster management team that brought these supplies,” Mohamud Moallim said.

For his part, Rostislav Panus, Consul of the Russian Embassy for Djibouti and Somalia, said the Russian government had responded to a request from the federal government to deliver urgent humanitarian assistance to people in need.
“The Government of the Russian Federation decided to respond to the request of the Federal Government of Somalia to deliver urgent humanitarian aid,” Panus said.
The aid comes as Somalia faces humanitarian challenges caused by drought, food shortages and difficult living conditions affecting thousands of families in parts of the country.
Russia previously delivered humanitarian assistance to Somalia in November 2023 and January 2024, as part of its support to the country during emergency situations.
